Hosanna!

I heard a quote tonight from a movie that said, "There is no need for anymore sacrifices." I couldn't help but smile. On the eve of Palm Sunday, my mind was no longer processing the images on the big screen. I was visualizing the celebration that took place when Jesus made his entry into Jerusalem. Tomorrow, we commemorate this scene in our worship services.

"The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet Him shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!'"
                                                                                                John 12:12-14 (NIV)

Word spread that day Jesus was coming. Those who had awaited this moment began to gather on each side of the street. Children would pull at the robes of the adults to be placed in front of them or to be hoisted up for the best possible view as Jesus passed by. Palm branches were being passed around for visual recognition along with the cries of "Hosanna!" in honor and declaration of the "King." Though this particular group of believers waved and sang in exuberance, they did not understand He would be a sacrifice for them; for everyone. He would be the last sacrifice needed.

As we gather in our places of worship tomorrow morning, we should be louder, more joyful, more thankful in our outward expressions of love for the one who made it possible for us to have access to the Father because of His own sacrifice. We know the results of His purpose for entering Jerusalem tomorrow - to show Himself King; to offer Himself as THE sacrifice for our salvation.

I'm still smiling. "There is no need for anymore sacrifices." Hosanna! Hosanna!
