Tainted

I heard a song for the first time on the drive back from our family vacation that awakened me from a self-righteous sleep.  How can I possess such an arrogance to think God would rather hear a ritual from my lips rather than recourse from one's heart?

Jesus did tell us that the Father is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.  If we offer anything less, worship is tainted.  Worship is complete dependence upon, desperation for, and recognition of Him as the only One.  With that revelation, we begin to see the range of God's search for worship is far greater than what we as selfish Chrstians have portrayed it to be.

Jesus displayed the precedent of ministry in his actions towards everyone he reached and in His expectations from those individuals.  He came for the purpose of leading all to the Father.  If we are ministering for personal recognition or gain, ministry is tainted.

Thankfully, God possesses patience that we can't comprehend.  He loves us passionately.  He's proven it.  But, we must be reminded that He brings salvation to us all.  If I place my acceptance of salvation above those who have yet to receive this same gift, salvation is tainted.

What a beautiful thought to think God hears from all of His creation as a sweet melody.  He's always listening for you.  Don't allow your song to be tainted.

These brilliant, spirit-led lyrics were written by Chapin Hartford and Sarah Hart; copyrighted 2009 by EMI Christian Music Publishing.  The performance I heard was by Amy Grant...

Verse
  God loves a lullaby
In a mother's tears in the dead of night
  Better than a hallelujah sometimes
  God loves a drunkard's cry
A soldier's plea not to let him die
  Better than a hallelujah sometimes

Chorus
  We pour out our miseries
  God just hears a melody
  Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts
  Are better than a hallelujah

Verse
A woman holding on for life
A dying man giving up the fight
Are better than a hallelujah sometimes
Tears of shame for what's been done
The silence when the words won't come
Are better than a hallelujah sometimes

Bridge
Better than a church bell ringing
Better than a choir singing out
  Singing out
