I Know Something You Don't Know
Children love to make the statement, "I know something you don't know." Adults may not continue to make the same proclamation, but we take pleasure in the same sentiment. Children and adults alike treasure the opportunity to relay to others what they don't know. There is a satisfaction and gratification in possessing knowledge. The wonderful reward in obtaining knowledge is sharing it. Our knowledge is for others to know.
I think about Jesus teaching in the synagogue. Can you imagine obtaining His knowledge at the age of 12 years old? The anticipation on the faces of the scripture experts must have been a thrill for Jesus. One thing He refused to do is withhold His knowledge. He came to share. Though there are methods for challenging people to think and drive them to be inquisitive, the responsibility of a carrier is to deliver. Jesus was a carrier of the greatest message of hope and He delivered it - to everyone.
I was mesmerized by the teaching of two speakers today at Engage Conference in Atlanta, GA. Reggie McNeal and Leonard Sweet delivered a powerful message. It is the same message that Jesus set up before He left us. We were challenged to get our focus off of what we have institutionalized as "church" and be the carriers of Jesus message. We have neither the time, right, nor luxury of flaunting the "I know something you don't know" banner. The world needs us to be the deliverers of what we are carrying.
I picture a sweet, confident smile on the face of Jesus each time He began to share what He has known since the beginning of time. Giving His knowledge of hope to redeem us was His greatest pleasure. He's passed that joy to us. Give it a try. Go to the very ones Jesus came to save and have the child-like heart when saying, "I know something you don't know." If you are truly a follower of Christ, you can't refrain from sharing it.
